Soccer: Week 5

Nothing new today! Same ole' routine of hanging out on the sidelines and scrounging food from my parents! When we first got to the field, there wasn't anybody there. Aidan was running around kicking the ball into the goal by himself. Then Coach Todd showed up and Ethan and Aidan continued kicking the ball. Once the whole team was present, Aidan was long gone. He ignores the coaches like he doesn't even hear them. Part of me is embarrassed by his behavior, but then the other part of me says, "give him a break, he's only 3"!

It's amazing to me the difference between a 3 and 4 year old. All the kids who are 4 or close to being 4 are easily distinguishable from their younger team mates. They talk more, comprehend more and follow directions far better. But the 3 year olds are so stinkin' cute as they do summersaults on the field and wonder off after being distracted by some bug flying by.

There was a lesson learned today. My parents and any other relative who wants to attend Aidan's soccer games will be asked to refrain from buying concession stand food until AFTER the game. It's pretty hard to tell a 3 year old that they have to go out on a field and chase a ball around instead of munching on some delicious french fries or nachos and then washing them down with a coke! I have come to the understanding that my parents and I do not share the same feelings on nutritional value and what constitutes a "healthy snack". They are, afterall, the grandparents, and they feel that this title comes with the privlege to spoil their grandkids. I get it. However, (I know you're reading this mom) could you please hold off on the snacks until after the game is over. At least Aidan will know that if he finishes the game he will get a special treat. If he gets it before the game, then there is no incentive! It's pretty sad that my whole family comes to watch him play soccer and then all he does is hang out, barely stepping foot within the soccer field lines. Today Aidan's fan club included: My mom, dad, Aunt Elia, Great-Grandma Fina, Uncle Rudy, Aunt Velma, and 2nd cousin Nyla. Thanks guys for your support! Aidan loves having family there to cheer him on.

Next week is Easter, therefore, no game! Yes, a break from the torture :)
